The Foundation has made Newborn and Child Health care one of it's biggest mission in Uganda. We look at this in two parts; the first one being care during birth and the second part being the child's early years.
The importance of why the first 24 hours of a newborn's life are very key for it to live a healthy lifestyle especially in underprivileged communities. We cant state how vulnerable a newly born is in the first 24 hours hence the importance for them to be brought into this world in a hygienic environment with the best healthcare available to their mothers.
The second part is when the child leaves the healthcare facility for home. A couple of questions here are raised, will the child's parents follow-up with all the immunisation vaccines? Are his/her nutritional requirements going to be met? Are they going to be brought up in an environment with good sanitation? among other things.
As Dorah Mwima Foundation we are looking to effectively join the fight against malnutrition, preventing infectious diseases in newborns and reducing maternal and child mortality at birth.
