1. Introduction of Members
Mrs. Mwima introduced herself and her role as the founder of the Dorah Mwima Foundation. She then called upon members to introduce themselves. The new members being Yvonne Mpambara and Mimi Hattoh joining DMF as volunteers were briefed on the origin of DMF and it's mission and objectives, the introduction of the MamaPort Project and the Celebrity football matches that are held annually to raise funds for the project and create awareness about the foundation and the project to be specific.
2. Matters Raised
(a). How does the Foundation identify the expectant women that are in need of the MamaPort?
(b). How will the money for the MamaPort be raised?
(c). From whom can the funds and donations be collected?
(d). How will our new volunteer Mimi help in this project since she is situated in Ghana?
(e). How shall we create awareness for this project?
(f). How often is it required to go to the field to carry out research?
3. The Way Forward
(a). Carry out a research and find out how we can indulge midwives to corporate with the foundation and share information on women of interest in this regard. Yvonne and Willis are to identify particular areas where they can research on the medical personnel mostly midwives who can be easily contacted in connection to deliveries and for information on heavily pregnant women that need help from the foundation as far as delivering babies is concerned and accessing the health centers in time for delivery. Thereafter, they will both go to the field researched upon and interview women in that area and find out how best the project can be of help to them. Willis is to take pictures of the activities for each day in the field in order to share with well-wishers and those interested to see what’s on ground. There will also be communication with Mimi on when to meet her and have her included in this research during her stay in Uganda.
(b). Social Media Awareness. Since Angella has in the past shown great strengths in social media activation, she will spearhead the campaign and create awareness about the MamaPort Project on all the foundation social media platforms. The activities carried out will constantly be posted on the Foundation page and Dorah Mwima’s public page too.
(c). Funding from corporate bodies and the general public to send in what they can. The Foundation is to acquire MTN & Airtel Mobile Money lines for the general public to send in contributions towards the project. We concluded that for donations from out of the country, they can be acquired through Western Union, MoneyGram, and a bank account will also be created in the near future in this regard. Mimi can help in donations by spearheading a campaign of its kind in Ghana and getting those able to contribute to the project do so. Donations are also acceptable in kind for example contributing delivery hampers to the newly mum. The foundation hopes to raise funds also through decorated branded bottles and T-shirts that will be sold and the money injected into the project.
(d). The date of the 4th “A Celebrity For Charity” football match will be on December 10th 2017 the venue is to be confirmed but in case of any changes regarding the date, communication will be made earlier to avoid any disappointment. We believe the re-launch of the Project will help us warm up the public to come out in large numbers for the celebrity football match.
(e). The next meeting is scheduled to be held on the last Saturday of the month and this is to be the followed routine for the next meetings in order to touch base on how far we are in the project and the preparations for the celebrity football match.
